Applied Functional Materials Ltd

Applied Functional Materials Ltd (AFM Ltd) has world class expertise in the fabrication of functional ceramic devices with complex shapes, they are dedicated to the development, manufacture, application and characterisation of functional materials, composites and devices. AFM Ltd's novel, net-shape processing technology is used to make devices with designs that would be impossible using conventional ceramic processing techniques. The company is targeting their novel ceramic processing technology for use in high frequency ultrasound transducer and array devices for biomedical imaging & therapy. Their process capability produces high quality material which can be shaped into a unique range of components and devices of both large and small scale - microns to millimetres. AFM has already demonstrated its technology in the manufacture of single element ultrasound transducers operating up to 65MHz, bringing benefits of increased resolution and imaging of smaller features & thinner layers. AFM is working with clinicians to demonstrate the benefits of high frequency ultrasound to image & treat conditions that are not possible with current lower frequency ultrasound technology. This will have significant impact on the use of ultrasound in the areas of ophthalmology; oral and dentistry; dermatology and plastic surgery; musculoskeletal diagnosis and intravascular medicine
