Calthorpe Estates
CALTHORPE ESTATES - SHAPING BIRMINGHAM'S LANDSCAPE FOR YEARS TO COME Family owned since 1717, Calthorpe Estates is a property investment and development business, whose prime focus is the 610 hectare Calthorpe Estate in Edgbaston. The Estate offers an enviable and unrivalled environment for residential and commercial customers, where elegant Georgian period properties blend with contemporary buildings amid the tree lined avenues of one of Britain's largest urban conservation areas. 2008 is a crucial year in the largest regeneration of Birmingham's western gateway, with over 1.3 million sq ft of new development in the pipeline from Calthorpe Estates. Currently driving forward its £350 million regeneration programme across the Estate, the property company is playing an integral role in the city's transformation. With a focus on enhancing the Estate as a whole, the company takes a uniquely integrated approach to regeneration. Sustainability has been at the heart of Calthorpe Estates for the last three centuries and the company's commitment to this is evident by its delivery of Birmingham's first two BREEAM* 'Excellent' rated office buildings at 19 George Road and Calthorpe House. 19 George Road has won three awards for its environmental credentials and striking design while Calthorpe House will offer over 105,000 sq ft of Grade A office space on completion in Spring 2009. The company's vision to transform Birmingham's west end and increase the range of facilities on the estate also includes a state-of-the-art science park and two major retail and leisure schemes. Demolition is already underway at Edgbaston Shopping Centre, where a £110 million investment will create Edgbaston Galleries. The development will offer 425,000 sq ft of Grade A office space, a food store, retail and leisure facilities, hotel accommodation and significant car parking. Edgbaston Mill, a 450,000 sq ft retail and leisure development opposite Edgbaston Cricket Ground is also set to deliver much needed facilities to the area. The £100 million scheme will offer restaurants, a food store, retail and leisure facilities and 344 luxury residential apartments at Redrow Homes' Hemisphere scheme, many of which are already occupied. A 200 bedroom hotel and Grade A offices are also planned to complement these amenities. At University Science Park, Pebble Mill, Calthorpe Estates aims to strengthen Birmingham's science and innovation credentials with nearly 400,000 sq ft of research and development space, including a biotechnology incubator planned for 2009. Combined, the variety and scale of these landmark developments will have a tremendous impact on Edgbaston and play a significant role in the renaissance of Birmingham, helping to reinforce the city's position as a key international destination.
